The California Legislature late Thursday sent a bill to Governor Jerry Brown allowing undocumented immigrants to receive driver’s licenses. In a statement before the final vote in the state Assembly, the Governor signaled he will sign the bill:
This bill will enable millions of people to get to work safely and legally,” Brown said in the statement. “Hopefully, it will send a message to Washington that immigration reform is long past due.
I agree with this new bill on allowing undocumented immigrants to receive driver's licenses. As Senator Kevin de Leon states, “This measure will ensure that all drivers on California highways are properly trained, properly licensed and properly insured.” As a side note, it is not surprising to me that Senator Kevin de Leon is in charge of the LA area, since 1 of 10 residents are illegal immigrants. I do think this bill will help insure safety for drivers along with improving the economy.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Anonymous that this bill will enforce immigrants to receive properly driving lessons. By ensuring that immigrants go through the process of getting a driver licenses, it will reduces the amount of accidents on the road. There had been multiple cases where an incident occur and the driver is an illegal immigrant.
ReplyDeleteAs Anonymous and Lee already stated and I agree, this bill will keep everyone a little safer on the roads. At first, I was wondering how since the article didn't exactly indicate, but Lee brought up a good point that the immigrants will have to take proper driving lessons as they go through the process of obtaining their license.
